Welcome - let's get started!

Please review the following deliverables before answering our questions. Cover design sessions are via remote platform (Zoom, MS Teams, etc.). Each session will be scheduled for 60 minutes. Within that timeframe we can expect to:

Review yearbook theme and any existing design concepts

Consult on design direction including cover elements and typography

Begin preliminary cover layout - due to time constraints we will develop as much of the cover as possible (any additional time may be contracted separately - see below)

Provide any final assets reviewed for advisor to finalize cover layout

Each session includes design consultation, layout/design (as time permits), and delivery of assets for front/back/spine design for one cover layout. Endsheets, page layout, mastheads, etc., are not included. Every effort will be made to provide a layout with assets usable throughout the design of the yearbook and its relevant theme. Additional scheduling changes or sessions will incur additional fees; additional cover layouts and design to finalize cover may be contracted through Burney Design Co. Upon determining the scope of the additional design work, BDCo. will provide an estimate to your Friesens Yearbook Rep for review and approval prior to starting additional work.

What about typography? Have you considered the fonts that will be used for your yearbook? Ideally only use 2, 3 at most. Note that the 2-3 range are for headlines and body copy - that does not include variations in the family such as bold, italic, etc.

Now what about colors? List CMYK values if you have them. We also accept RGB and HEX values.

Any colors we should avoid? Bitter rivalries, nearby schools, etc?

What about materials or special finishing effects. Provide any you think you might be interested in. Leather with an emboss? You want some die-cuts? Gloss? Matte? Metal inlays? Speak up!

If you have images, resources, or other references for your design, you can upload them here. Check out Pinterest or Instagram for trends and inspiration. Build a mood board with typography, colors and photos. The inspiration that dictates the cover also dictates the theme and will help you develop the entire visual direction of the Yearbook.
